Revenue Potential

The Lunar Commerce Portfolio Version 1, which was made public in November 2022, contained both a detailed documentation of assumptions, as you have now seen, and also an Excel model and its associated data, which was used to compute the revenues attributable to each of the market segments. Let’s now use that same data in this primer to present to you the revenue potential from lunar businesses as we have defined them in the previous four chapters. This, in effect, is the “big reveal” of this book. As you would by now have realized, this information will be presented in the form of averaged annual revenue totals. Both for the Early Phase (from now until 2030), and for the eventual Mature period, whenever that is finally achieved. There will be no information for the intervening years (of unknown duration) during which there would be some kind of combination of the businesses described for the Initial Phase, and those for the Mature Phase. There will be both lunar surface and lunar orbit sources of demand. We are, of course, engaged in crystal ball gazing, and therefore do not know which of the markets we have proposed will become a commercial reality over time. But our work will hopefully provide some guidance and direction to the eventual creation of a lunar economy, and will offer some early order-of-magnitude estimates of potential lunar commerce revenues.
