Conclusions

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) represent a major public health concern which is rapidly increasing in prevalence in low -resources countries, where the World Health Organization estimated them to be responsible each year for 74% of the 41 million global yearly deaths. Aortic aneurysm, ischaemic stroke and peripheral artery disease accounted for 2.2% of deaths and 0.8% of DALYs, with a rise of mortality attributable to these conditions in this setting. This book investigated “the neglected area of vascular surgery”, as vascular pathology occurring in concomitance with historically neglected endemic diseases. It put together the available evidences that are currently limited to care reports and series. The aim was to inspire future research on the topic, increasing the report of monocentric experiences, and to emphasize the importance of the creation of registries and networks to increase dialogue and the sharing of experience, towards the meeting of 2030 roadmap goals.
