All Interacting Evolving Systems Science: A Framework to Diagnose Degenerative Ecosystems and Synthesise Regenerative Ecosystems

This article argues that changes in any ecosystemEcosystem can be diagnosed and synthesised through the eight core dimensionsDimension and forty key factors representing the characteristics of various life forms, matter, and forces in an ecosystemEcosystem. It argues that a change, whether degenerationDegeneration or regenerationRegeneration, is a function of interactionsInteraction of the different naturesNature of these key factors. These interactionsInteraction occur due to the natural interconnections, interdependenceInterdependence, and interactionsInteraction of the factors of different dimensionsDimension in an ecosystemEcosystem. In ecosystemsEcosystem dominated by human beings, the intentIntent of human actors greatly influences the natureNature of factors (variables) chosen, which determines the outcome in terms of level of degenerationDegeneration or regenerationRegeneration. Further, the interacting and evolvingEvolving natureNature of these variables raises the complexitiesComplexities and uncertaintiesUncertainties in our ability to recognise and resolve the degenerative processes in an ecosystemEcosystem. However, the paper argues that in specific contexts of our ecosystemsEcosystem, harmonising interactionsInteraction of oneself with all (other-centred intentIntent) appears to be the key to building regenerative ecosystemsEcosystem. The article adopts a Systems ScienceSystems science approach to study interactionsInteraction of multiple designDesign variables within and across different dimensionsDimension of an ecosystemEcosystem. The primary research methodologyMethodology is transdisciplinaryTransdisciplinary action research, complemented by case studies and large-scale field surveys. The primary ecosystemEcosystem of study included the rural ecosystemRural ecosystems, urban ecosystemEcosystem, and industrial ecosystemEcosystem at their lowest level of governanceGovernance. The period of study was for about two decades, from 2002 to 2022.
