Design Together: Uncovering the Impact of Co-design and Design Thinking on Designing for People with Dementia

With the increasing prevalence of dementia, there is a growing need for interactive products and services that cater to the unique needs of this population. This chapter explores the transformative potential of co-design and design thinking in empowering individuals with dementia. While advancements have been made, understanding the core needs of people with dementia remains a challenge. To address this, design teams are increasingly advocating for co-design approaches that involve stakeholders, including individuals with dementia, throughout the design process. Co-design workshops, despite their challenges, have emerged as valuable platforms for collaboration and knowledge sharing. By actively engaging individuals with dementia, caregivers, and other stakeholders, designers gain deeper insights into their needs, preferences, and limitations.
