Powerful Partnerships for Learning Gain

The evidence speaks for itself, teachers wholeheartedly believe in the importance of partnering with parents, there is however a real nervousness amongst many when it comes to engaging with parents. There is a need to intentionally equip teachers with skills, tools and strategies to establish and strengthen relationships with parents in order to leverage the potential of partnership for learning gain. There is much variability in the way various Schools communicate, connect and report on progress and learning with parents. Insights from this inquiry highlight a mismatch between teacher and parent communication preferences for some age demographics. This report highlights there is an opportunity to review how we engage with parents and suggests embracing an equitable approach that takes into consideration how we resource parents, communication preferences, clarity on purpose and frequency of meetings to ensure diverse needs are met.
