Education and Belonging in a New Age of Artificial Intelligence

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI)Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologyTechnology have resulted in a wide variety of questions over how it can and should be applied in educational settingsEducational settings. Also, in recent years professionals and policy makers have identified concerns about loneliness and belongingBelonging, especially among children and youth. Developments and new applications of AI present opportunities to promote belongingBelonging in schoolsSchools, but also there are a myriad of challenges and valid concerns that need to be addressed regarding AI and its effects on children and society. This chapter offers a broad contextualization of the potential advantages and disadvantages of AI applications in schoolsSchools as they relate to belonging and concludes in acknowledging the importance of developing human-centered AI programs that enhance rather than replacing human interaction along with identifying a need for ongoing research as the field and technologyTechnology develops.
