Modern Transport Infrastructure as Part of Critical Infrastructures

Transport infrastructure (roads, railway lines, navigable canals, seaports and airports) form the country’s transport network and, due to their importance, are classified as critical infrastructure. As a result of various crisis events, this infrastructure may be destroyed, damaged, which will negatively affect the operation of the state. Therefore, it is necessary to constantly develop and expand the infrastructure, especially in the context of its protection. They serve, among others, projects financed from EU funds. In the article, we will consider what critical infrastructure is and why transport-related infrastructure belongs to it. We will also diagnose potential threats that may negatively affect the functioning of the state. We will also provide examples of attacks on critical transport infrastructure, which have recently intensified. The reason for this is, among others, the geopolitical situation we find ourselves in. Finally, we will also provide opportunities to obtain funding to improve the operation of critical transport infrastructure. The source of funds may be EU funds.
