Nursing Education: The Bridge to Patient Safety

Education has been the bridge to creating safe quality healthcare delivery systems with the goal of alleviating preventable harm. Educators and clinicians have sought to transform health professions education through what and how we teach. This chapter describes the connection between transformative nursing education and patient safety by describing the integration of QSEN competencies into competency-based education, and the intersection of academic-practice partnerships, interprofessional education and practice competencies, and the reimagining of nursing pedagogies for preparing nurses for safe quality practice.
