Other Statistical Tools

摘要

Even though we can use the regression model presented in the previous chapters to investigate many interesting issues, other statistical tools are also often used. This chapter presents t-tests, chi-square tests, and analysis of variance, in addition to showing how we may perform these tests in a regression model using what we have learned in the previous chapters of the book. We have primarily focused on the regression model to analyze relationships so far. However, there are also other statistical tools commonly used to explore relationships. For some analyses, it may be more convenient to employ these tools rather than a regression model. However, it is also possible to utilize the regression model to perform many of the tests in this chapter. To examine differences between the mean values of two different variables or groups, we can use a t-testT-test, often referred to as the Student’s t-testStudent’s t-test or the unpaired t-test.
