Caregiver Burnout Is Real

  • Inna Popil

摘要

As the U.S. population lives longer, the need for family caregiver (FC) support grows. A FC role comes with many challenges and can lead to stress and burnout. Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and dementia can be extremely demanding and stressful. This chapter describes AD caregiving demands, reviews signs and symptoms of FC burnout, and offers interventions to help FCs recognize and manage caregiving challenges. This chapter offers many useful tips for nurses when teaching FCs on communicating and active listening when caring for a loved one with AD. Developing a FC workshop could serve as an excellent way to educate FCs and provide available resources.
