Promoting Policy for More Resources for Family Caregivers

  • Molly McClelland

摘要

Finding available resources and assistance for family caregivers (FCs) can be overwhelming. It is the role of the nurse to assess FC fatigue and direct the FC to available resources. This chapter addresses resources for families through awareness of existing policy. Policy makes it possible for governmental, organizational, and diseased-focused resources to exist. It is up to nurses and other HCPs to get families to the resources. Teaching the FC on available resources helps to support and articulate the role of the FC as a primary advocate in patient care. This chapter will discuss some chronic and age-related conditions with resources and policies to assist FCs. A real-life case study is provided demonstrating how nurses can access and utilize such information when providing support to their patients and FCs.
