Men and Their Health
摘要
This chapter introduces the central themes and focus of the book, clarifying why a book on prostate cancer, sexual health, and ageing masculinities is necessary. The aims of this book are: (1) to analyse how plural masculinities covary or interact with prostate cancer, its treatment, and rehabilitation; and (2) to analyse how the predicaments created by this condition impact the bodies, lives, and lifestyles of those affected. The chapter then provides an explanation of the book’s theoretical framing within critical studies on men and masculinity, as well as its relationship to body studies and phenomenology. It concludes with an outline of the remaining chapters.
