Nutrition: One Size Does Not Fit All
摘要
Although ICU survival rates are increasing, patients frequently experience significant post-ICU morbidities, including impairment in physical function that can persist for a number of years. Loss of lean body mass contributes to this functional disability, highlighting the importance of timely, adequate nutritional support as an essential component in the care of critically ill patients. Current evidence suggests providing a low dose of energy and protein during the initial few days in ICU and adopting an individualised approach to nutritional support thereafter in order to improve outcomes throughout the entire ICU journey.
