Nonprescription Treatments

This chapter includes treatments that do not require a prescription and are most often sold over the counter. Pheromone-based treatments such as dog-appeasing pheromone, nutraceuticals such as α-casozepine, α-lactalbumin, l-tryptophan, and various dietary supplements will be discussed. Phytotherapy, aromatherapy, Bach flowers, and homeopathy are also discussed in this chapter. Finally, a summary table with the level of scientific evidence for each over-the-counter treatment closes this section and will allow the practitioner to better orient his therapeutic choices.
