摘要

Because of their actions on brain functions, hormonal therapies are of great interest in veterinary psychiatry. This chapter covers the use of thyroid and sex hormones. Thyroid hormones are important factors in the regulation of gene expression. An imbalance must be detected and readjusted. There are several licensed veterinary medication based on levothyrox (synthetic isomer of thyroxine). Treatments related to sex hormones concern megestrol acetate for its historical use, oxytocin for its importance in social behavior, as well as cyproterone acetate and deslorelin for their antiandrogenic interest. Among these molecules, only deslorelin is a licensed veterinary medication.
