Benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepines are all positive allosteric modulators of GABA ionotropic receptors. Their presence induces an enhancement of GABAergic transmission, the latter having an inhibitory role in many brain circuits. The molecules of this family are used as anticonvulsants and anxiolytics. There is no oral benzodiazepine licensed veterinary medication, these molecules are therefore used off-label.
