Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors all have in common the inhibition of presynaptic serotonin reuptake pumps (SERTs), thereby increasing the presence of this neurotransmitter in the synaptic space. Fluoxetine under the name Reconcile® is the only drug of this family available as an authorized veterinary medicine.
