The Link Between Psychiatric and Physical Disorders

In this chapter, we describe the bidirectional relationship between psychiatric and physical disorders in animals. We explore various areas of veterinary medicine and emphasize their close connections with veterinary psychiatry: pain management, dermatology, neurology, nutrition, internal medicine, reproduction, surgery, and geriatrics. For each category, we detail the potential behavioral outcomes of these physical diseases on the dog’s psychological state, as well as the implications of psychiatric conditions across the various fields of veterinary medicine.
