Records Management in the Fight Against Corruption and Promotion of Good Governance in Sierra Leone
摘要
The issue of Good Governance has dominated international discourse about development and international aid, especially in the developing world. Good Governance, among other things, deals with accountability, transparency, gender balance, probity, participation, operation of the rule of law and practical and efficient use of resources. It is not worth saying that corruption in Sierra Leone is perennial and embedded in almost every fabric of society. This is deterring development and is a smack of bad governance. Fighting corruption requires proper record keeping as, in most ties, the records are first played with before corruption occurs. However, Sierra Leone is a classic example of poor record keeping negatively affecting socio-economic development. This has led to widespread corruption, lack of accountability and bad governance. Against this background, this chapter critically examined corruption in Sierra Leone, its different types and effects, the Government’s stance against corruption and the need for proper records keeping to attain good governance.
