Community-Based Exercise Programs for Older Adults
摘要
Community-based exercise programs, based in community centers, congregate living areas, and churches, are attractive options for improving and maintaining physical function in older adults. Several community-based exercise programs have demonstrated success in increasing the amount of time and frequency of exercise in older adults. Developing community partnerships and use of evidence-based strategies are essential to success. Many programs now have virtual options which are helpful for older adults with transportation barriers or no access to a nearby community program. Community programs do not replace traditional healthcare strategies, such as physical therapy, but amplify and extend exercise options for older adults.
