The Power of Convergence: STEM Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence

摘要

This chapter identifies the challenges that the era of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought to education and outlines a vision of the strategies needed to develop STEM education in China. The development of STEM education in China is driven by the need to cultivate talent and reform education for the purpose of improving international talent competitiveness in the context of rapid economic development. At present, China’s STEM education is widely recognized by schools and parents and is developing in a diverse manner, but it also faces such challenges as prescribed top-level design and a shortage of qualified teachers. The era of AI has created an increased requirement for the cultivation of scientific and technological talent and for the skill update of the labour force, resulting in even bigger challenges for STEM education. As a response to the challenges, the strategies to develop STEM education in the era of AI focus on interdisciplinary teaching, sharing of quality resources, promotion of digital literacy, construction of digital platforms and the building of a new STEM education ecosystem. So, the demands generated in the era of AI can be truly met through the implementation of STEM education.
