90Sr, 134Cs and 137Cs in Sea Area Surrounding a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP)

In order to understand the level of radioactivity of 90Sr, 134Cs and 137Cs in the surrounding waters of the nuclear power plant, two surveys were conducted in 2009 and 2017, respectively. The sampling, preprocessing, and radiochemical analysis methods used in the survey also referred to the latest standards and specifications at that time. Through comparative analysis of the survey results, it was found that the majority of the measurement results of seawater, sediment, and marine organisms in the two surveys were basically at the same level. It can be concluded that the operation of Units 1 and 2 of the Nuclear Power Plant did not have a significant impact on the environmental radioactivity level in the surrounding sea area. It is recommended to further pay attention to 90Sr in subsequent monitoring work.
