Efficient Oxidation Treatment of Wastewater by Ozone Cooperative Microfiltration Membrane Technology

Ozone oxidation, a commonly utilized advanced oxidation technology for wastewater degradation, encountered a bottleneck in low utilization rate. This paper discussed the treatment of wastewater using ozone cooperative microfiltration membrane technology. Ozone and wastewater passed through microfiltration membrane tubes of different sizes to reach a state of micron size before they reacted. As a result, the collision cross-section of the reactants was increased, leading to enhanced reaction efficiency and ozone utilization rate. The experimental results showed the difference in degradation rates before and after passing through the microfiltration membrane tubes for ozone degradation of methylene blue wastewater and ammonia nitrogen wastewater. Methylene blue wastewater undergoes a rapid degradation within a short reaction time, with a degradation rate approximately double that of non-passage through the tubes. In the case of ammonium chloride-simulated ammonia nitrogen wastewater, a more significant transformation was observed. In the situation of low concentration ozone, the degradation rate was almost zero when reactants did not pass through the microfiltration membrane tubes, while it could reach 5% in a short period when they did.
