Distribution of Marine Plastic Debris in the Intertidal Zone on the South Bank of Xiamen Bay

The impact of marine plastic pollution on marine ecosystems is severe and long-lasting. As a result, plastic pollution has become one of the researches focuses currently. In this paper, the distribution of plastic debris on the south bank of Xiamen Bay was investigated at four sections including high tide area, middle tide area and low tide area in 2022. The results showed that the abundance of plastic debris in the intertidal zone of Xiamen Bay was much higher than the average abundance of beach waste in China, with many types and sources of plastic waste. By analyzing the quantity distribution, composition and sources of plastic debris in the intertidal zone of Xiamen Bay, this study can supplement the data base of plastic debris in the intertidal zone, enrich the research content of plastic debris in the intertidal zone, and provide corresponding data support for further preventing marine plastic pollution and proposing standardized garbage disposal methods.
