Carbon Accounting for Electricity Use of End Users: A Critical Review

In the current global context of escalating concerns about anthropogenic climate change, electricity consumers on the production side have integrated carbon emissions accounting into their operational and sustainable development strategies. In a collective endeavor to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, both corporate entities and government institutions are actively engaged in efforts to quantify, monitor, and ultimately diminish the carbon footprint linked to their electricity usage. This process necessitates rigorous methodologies and calculations, enabling users to comprehensively assess the carbon emissions linked to their electricity consumption and align their practices with environmental conservation and sustainable development objectives. The behavior of corporate electricity consumption is shaped by a multitude of factors, including policies within the electricity market, the carbon market, renewable energy initiatives, and green certificate trading, among others. Therefore, researching the future development patterns and directions of the electricity market and carbon market holds significance for entities, including businesses, in adjusting their electricity consumption behaviors. This study utilizes a bibliometric approach to perform an extensive review of the present research pertaining to the electricity market and the carbon market. Utilizing the VOS viewer, a bibliometric software, a network analysis of literature is undertaken to pinpoint key research focal points. The analysis also delves into citation patterns and explores research institutions. The ultimate goal is to extrapolate future trends within the electricity market, green energy, and the carbon market using bibliometric insights. This study seeks to understand how these factors collectively impact end-user electricity consumption behaviors.
