Colorectal Surgeon Leadership in Affiliated Organizations

Fellows and members of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) are familiar with our current and past leaders and their numerous contributions to our society. In addition to working within the ASCRS, its leaders have invested much time and effort in our affiliated organizations: The American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABCRS), ASCRS Research Foundation, and Residency Review Committee for Colon and Rectal Surgery within the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Furthermore, ASCRS leaders have been actively engaged in the leadership of other surgical organizations. Within this chapter we have invited a variety of ASCRS leaders who have leadership roles in organizations in North America to explain what they have done, how and why they did it, and the importance of ASCRS fellows and members being active in these other organizations. I thank our contributors for their reflections and especially for their time, efforts, and commitment to keep the ASCRS at the forefront of American surgery.
