Mechanisms of Drug Resistance in Breast Cancer

The incidence of breast cancer has increased over the past decades making it the most common cancer in females worldwide. Multidrug resistance (MDR) has been one of the obstacles in decreasing death rates related to breast cancer. This chapter aims to explain the breast cancer subtypes, the underlying molecular mechanisms of development, and common treatment strategies and resistance associated with the various subtypes of breast cancer. This chapter will also shed light on the complexities that prevent effective treatment and identify potential viable drug targets to overcome related drug resistance.
