Big Data (or How to Decide Using Massive Information)
摘要
This chapter describes the main mathematical tools used in machine learning, namely linear and nonlinear regression, separation of sets by curves and surfaces (in particular, lines and planes), and neural networks, which also make use of the numerical methods described in Chapter 3 . It considers applications to the prediction of bankruptcy, health diagnosis and the detection of political ideology to capture votes. It also illustrates the use of machine learning with the assignment of authorship of the Federalist Articles and some cases of forensic linguistics related with politics. It finally shows how to detect Gerrymandering praxis (ad hoc manipulation of district boundaries) through an index based on the isoperimetric problem described in Chapter 1 .
