Introduction

In this chapter we introduce the book and the project, outlining the background to the study, our research methodology and design, and an overview of the headlines of the data. We explain our mixed-methods approach, which combines quantitative analyses of discrete survey data with corpus-based and qualitative analyses of participants’ free-text responses. We also briefly summarise the main chapters, outlining how each makes a contribution to our study and to our overall understanding of reading habits during the pandemic.
