Conclusion: Deeds and Words

This chapter concludes the book and argues the case for Constance Nina Boyle’s inclusion in the canon of early twentieth-century women’s writing in the U.K. Boyle’s campaigning years and the popular nature of her fiction do not detract from the weight of its merit as a body of work that provides vital insight into the ways in which fictional representation impacts on the lived reality of women and girls in the era in which she is writing. The intertextual nature of her work is also important, and this is reiterated in this chapter, drawing together conclusions from the previous chapters which have included analysis of single books and offering points of comparison with relevant figures in today’s popular feminist movements in the U.K. This final chapter also seeks to further cement Boyle’s status as a still relevant author, over a century after she first began publishing her novels.
