Endourology offers minimally invasive treatments for a variety of urologic problems, many involving the kidneys, bladder, and prostate. While minimally invasive options for any surgical field are favored given often decreased rates of morbidity with still satisfactory outcomes, there remains an inherent risk for complications. For example, infection and sepsis are pervasive complications across all endourologic procedures. Bleeding is also inherent to many endourologic procedures. However, each procedure comes with the risk for its own unique complications and are important for the practicing Urologist to understand to improve surgical outcomes, understand troubleshooting strategies and for managing patients when a complication occurs, and importantly, to allow for appropriate counselling of their patients. Discussed in the chapter ahead are potential complications for an array of Endourologic procedures including percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), retrograde ureteroscopy and intrarenal surgery, endoscopic prostate surgery, and transurethral bladder surgery. We explore the risk factors, signs/symptoms, and the management considerations for each complication with the goal of providing a useful guide for the Endourology trainee or practicing provider.

摘要
