Arsenic (As) is a substance that naturally occurs and is present in soil and aquatic habitats. Both natural processes and human activity emit it into the environment. Rocks and minerals that have weathered naturally produce arsenic, which is then released into the land and water. As may also be found in the environment because of volcanic activity and geothermal activities. The distribution of As is significantly influenced by human activity. As may enter the soil and water systems through processes including mining, smelting, and the use of herbicides with As in agriculture. Other anthropogenic sources of As contamination include inappropriate waste disposal and industrial discharges. As distribution in soil and water environments is regulated by several variables. Its mobility and availability can be impacted by the redox state, organic matter concentration, and pH of the soil. As, in general, tends to collect in some areas because of things like geological conditions and human activity. High levels of As in geological formations or areas with a high concentration of mining or industrial activity are frequently found in areas with high As concentrations in soil and water. For management and damage mitigation, it is crucial to comprehend the origins and distribution of As in soil and water ecosystems. As pollution may be reduced, and human health and ecological integrity can be protected by using effective waste management, land use planning, and water treatment methods.
