PRP in Tendinopathy

Tendinopathy, a common musculoskeletal disorder characterized by tendon degeneration and chronic pain, has significant challenges in its management. The treatment of tendinopathies involves the use of multiple therapeutic options. It is still uncertain how they should be combined and their standardized use to fully comprehend the process of tendon degeneration and regeneration. It is essential to understand the pathophysiology by having a thorough acknowledge of the problem; we can determine the most effective treatment and the appropriate combination of biological and mechanical stimulation. Over the years, various treatment modalities have been explored, and one emerging approach gaining attention is the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This chapter will describe the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in tendinopathies. Additionally, we will discuss its potential use in conjunction with other biological and mechanical therapies. The chapter also highlights the growing body of evidence supporting the use of PRP in tendinopathy. While promising results have been observed in numerous studies, further research is warranted to elucidate optimal PRP formulations, dosing strategies, and patient selection criteria.
