Other Tremors

The complexity of tremor disorders requires an adept understanding of their diverse phenomenology and etiological underpinnings. Moving beyond the most common, (essential tremor (ET)), other tremors present with distinctive characteristics, from the slow, coarse rubral (aka Holmes) and cerebellar outflow tremor to the high-frequency, typically invisible orthostatic tremor. The controversy-laden entity, dystonic tremor, raises interesting questions about historical classifications and the nature of ‘tremor’ itself. Intriguingly, this entity challenges classical definitions, being neither regular nor oscillatory, generating discussion about whether it represents a true tremor or rather, a part of dystonic movements. Treatment paradigms include specific and symptomatic therapies, both dependent on accurate diagnosis. These include pharmacological management, botulinum toxin injection and deep brain stimulation in certain resistant types. This chapter navigates diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of other tremors, combining clinical insights with practical strategies.
