Assessment of Spatial and Temporal Changes in Strength of Vegetation Using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI): A Case Study from Akola District, Central India

In order to track changes in vegetation, vegetation indices are crucial. Both the MODIS Land Discipline Group’s Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) are global-based vegetation indicators intended to deliver information regarding spatial and temporal data about the world’s vegetation. These indicators could, however, contain, mistakes caused by various environmental conditions such as air conditions and soil background. An additional vital component is the influence of topography especially when using location’s indexes having rough undulated area. Current research conducted in Akola district located at Central part of Maharashtra. Using the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) determined with the help of Google Earth Engine (GEE). The EVI values demonstrate some fluctuation over the 15-year period. However, a visual examination of the data suggests a relatively stable pattern in EVI values for most regions, with no significant increasing or decreasing trend observed. The Man Kandel and Sen slope analyses provide valuable insights into the trends and changes in different parameters across various Tehsils. These results indicate both increasing and decreasing trends in different parameters, highlighting the variability and complexity of climate patterns in the region. The annual precipitation data for Akola district demonstrate considerable variability from year to year, with no clear long-term trend.
