Smart Village Planning Towards Sustainability Using Geospatial Techniques – A Case Study of Muzaffarnagar District, India

The potential of land and water resources determines the socio-economic state and development of every village or location. Because of the rise in population and other causes, these resources are commonly overused nowadays, which frequently results in depletion. Therefore, careful management of such precious resources is required. The development of action plans as a potential method for advancing democratic decentralization, need-based planning, and the empowerment of rural areas is paving the way for the continuous growth of a village’s soil and water resources. A wide range of biotic and abiotic activities, including afforestation, wasteland management, rainfed agriculture, soil and water conservation and rural employment are included. In light of this, a study was done to build an action plan for soil development at the parcel level. A study was done to create a parcel-level strategy for the advancement of the land and water assets existing in the Muzaffarnagar area using combined LISS IV and CARTOSAT-I satellite data. The research’s principal objectives were to determine pertinent factors for the improvement of water and soil assets and to build a strategy for implementation at the parcel level. The aforementioned task required the analysis of cadastral maps from four Lohia villages (Kurwa, Mohammadpur Rai Singh, Jaitpur, and Garhi Nawabad), and other thematic maps were produced to pace the volume of labour. The parcel-level action plan map for land and water assets was then made by combining these maps. As a result, a research was done to determine the best interventions to use. These interventions included contour bund, desilting, agroforestry, check-road-bund (CRB), agro-horticulture, etc. after receiving the results of the integration of theme layers. The findings show that conducting CRB is an important step that needs to be done in each of the selected communities.
