Pulmonary Embolism

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) encompasses deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). The last decade has included many advances in multidisciplinary research and therapies for patients with PE, from diagnosis, and prognostication, to advanced endovascular interventions, expanded indications, and long-term outcomes. This chapter will review the major clinical topics in PE and provide the basis for understanding relevant pathologies and related, evolving discussions.
