Follow-Up After Endovascular Aneurysm Repair

EVAR is associated with a low incidence of peri-procedural complications and mortality compared to open surgical repair, this advantage is, however, counterbalanced by a high incidence of secondary ruptures, re-interventions and re-hospitalizations in the long term. The objective of follow-up-imaging after EVAR is to allow the detection of medium- and long-term complications that may result in a secondary rupture of the aneurysm (high mortality event) and to allow planning of a secondary treatment or re-intervention. This chapter focuses on the timing and imaging modalities for follow-up after endovascular aortic repair with the aim of sharpening up the vision of the reporter, with a particular focus on the detection of endoleaks, these being the most frequent and often asymptomatic complication after EVAR, often along with therapeutic consequences.
