Words Are Symbols not Signals—Help and ‘HELP!’

Words are symbols; they stand for something else. Sometimes, however, these symbols may be used as signals. When words are used as signals, we have no time to consider their various possible meanings to different people in different situations. We react instantaneously. Viewing some words as signals in some situations fits in Kahneman’s idea of fast and slow thinking. Missing some words used as signals may be dangerous.
