Pretreatment Techniques for Derivation of Value-Added Products from Agro-Waste Biomass

Every year, millions of tons of garbage are produced in the farming industry. Environmentalists, governments, and other interested parties have valid concerns about how to dispose of and manage these materials properly. The improper disposal and management of these wastes pose health risks and pollute marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Recycling food scraps is a tried-and-true method for reducing landfill waste without sacrificing efficiency or sustainability. This chapter analyzes several pretreatment methods to make agricultural lignocellulosic biomass more biodegradable and digestible. Physical, chemical, biological, and physicochemical pretreatment methods are discussed, along with the more recent green solvent-based pretreatment method, to enhance the usefulness and practicability of each. Converting trash into valuable materials is a practical waste management approach for maintaining a healthy ecology. Further specialized research is required to develop novel approaches to facilitate the recycling of agricultural by-products. To remove the religious and cultural barriers to waste conversion, it is recommended that governments, environmentalists, legislators, and other stakeholders should inform citizens.
