Contemporary Russia’s economy is shaped by the natural resources—in particular, energy resources—in which the Russian Federation is rich. Natural resources bring obvious benefits as a source of national wealth, and Russia has been able to use the riches so gained to invest across the economy and to build up a Stabilisation Fund that has been vital in times of economic difficulty.
