Conclusion

The previous edition of Contemporary Russia was published in 2014; just in time to briefly add a note on, but not to analyse, Russia’s annexation of CrimeaCrimea in March of that year. Nonetheless, it was able, even less than two years into Vladimir Putin’s third term as president of Russia (2012–2018), to reference the growing authoritarian tendencies and legal abuses that were becoming ever more apparent in the Russian Federation.
