Introduction

In February 2022 Russia launched a full-scale militarymilitary invasion of UkraineUkraine. It brought about a war in Europe of a scale not seen for decades, with estimates of the dead and injured in the hundreds of thousands at the time of writing, in late summer 2023. Contemporary Russia was first published in 2006 and this is its fourth edition.
