Overview of an Implementation of a Health Surveillance System for Newborns at Home

摘要

In recent decades the medical field has made use of technology in its various aspects, making it indispensable in the management of a hospital structure. Telemedicine is a big part of this technology. The arrival of Covid-19 in 2020 marked the importance of this practice in the daily lives of every person. Our research work focus on finding technological solutions for newborns and nourishing, the most fragile and sensitive category in Morocco that suffers from a somewhat high mortality rate. Indeed, the neonatal center (CRNN) of Ibn Sina University Hospital Center, the only center of its kind present in Morocco, knows a very important flow of new born and nourishing hospitalized. In order to manage this flow, the center is obliged to make early exits to free up the places to fairly critical cases. To reduce the mortality risks, these early exits need to be monitored, i.e., the babies’ vital parameters such as temperature, heart rate, oxygen saturation (SpO2), and respiratory rate need to be measured and monitored in continuous. For this purpose, we are studying the feasibility of getting these measures in real time and also working on the conception of a smart wireless system able to analyze the measurements, detects the anomalies, give alerts to the parents, and send the obtained vital parameters continuously to a monitoring center situated at the neonatal center to alert the pediatricians and help them to make decisions, e.g., give the necessary instructions to the parents. Our research work consists of several parts: case study (patients and center), design materials, analysis of required data, transfer of information. Because the sensors represent the first step in monitoring the parameters, they must be carefully chosen in order to get accurate measurements. Therefore, in order to analyze the measurements in real time and transfer them safely to the neonatal center, internet of objects, or internet of medical things (IoMT), i.e., an interconnection of various medical devices and their applications connected with the Internet is a promising solution.
