Interest of Digital Smile Design in Patient Satisfaction in Comparison with Conventional Dental Treatments: Systematic Review

Objective: Examining patient satisfaction after using Digital Smile Design (DSD) software during dental treatment. Introduction: Patients are looking for solutions to improve their smiles as a result of the rising popularity of cosmetic dentistry. To assist physicians in this process, Digital Smile Design (DSD) has been created. Materials and Methods: Specific MeSH keywords pertaining to smile design, digital smile design, comfort, happiness, quality of life, and patient were used to perform an organized search in PubMed (Medline), Scopus, and ScienceDirect. According to the Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Reviews and Meta- Analyses (PRISMA) guideline, the search was restricted to articles published between 2017 and 2022 in both English and French. The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) was used to assess the caliber of chosen publications. Results: Seven clinical examples were included in the systematic review out of the 113 papers that the original search produced. None of the included studies evaluated patient satisfaction using a quality of life questionnaire. Six authors did note, however, that following DSD software therapy, patients improved from baseline. Discussion: Some studies like those by Zanardi and al. Showed that patients felt satisfaction with the outcomes obtained with DSD. Garcia and al., believed that DSD modeling was insufficient on its own to help patients understand and envision the suggested adjustments. Conclusion: To draw firm conclusions on the effect of DSD software on the satisfaction and quality of life of treated patients, more study is required.
