Differences in Gene Expression Due to Physical Activity Between Males and Females

Physical activity is known to exert profound effects on gene expression, contributing to individuals’ overall health and well-being. However, emerging evidence suggests that there are significant differences in gene expression patterns between males and females in response to physical activity. We analyzed RNA-seq data from male and female skeletal muscle cells after intense physical activity to highlight the differences in expression patterns. The studies revealed intriguing sex-specific gene expression patterns in response to physical activity. Post-HIIT workout male ENST00000414540.1 gene expression was nearly 4 times that of females as a TSPY1 pseudogene, while the UAP1 gene showed higher female expression, tied to deafness, autosomal recessive 109, dystonia 16, and relevant pathways. Understanding the gene expression differences between males and females due to physical activity has important implications for personalized exercise prescriptions. By elucidating the underlying molecular mechanisms, this study provides valuable insights into the sex-specific effects of physical activity on gene expression and sheds light on potential avenues for optimizing and personalizing health outcomes in both males and females.
