Economic Environment Friendly and Low-Cost Lipid Extraction Methods From Microalgae

The energy demand is increasing worldwide and likewise the use of fossil fuel. The use of fossil fuel is causing the emission of Greenhouse gas and has a lot of environmental impact. Hence, fossil fuel has become a major source of concern and immediate eco-friendly and cost-effective alternatives are need of the hour. The utilization of renewable energy is the only approach that seems to be able to fulfil future demands. Despite the fact that there are many renewable energy sources presently in use, microalgae appear to have a promising future as a source of carbon–neutral biofuels due to their special characteristics, Algae are aquatic organisms comprising almost 3000 different breeds and have the faster in reproduction than land plants and therefore can be exploited for producing a large biomass in a considerably short time period. An algal biomass is rich in oil and that almost all parts of the algal biomass can be converted into different usable products. Growing algal biomass is very easy and can be done without any specialisation. The biomass can be grown in waste water that is unfit for human consumption and has a high carbon di oxide sequestering ability. The goal of this article is to review the current status of using algal feedstock as an alternative renewable energy source and different methods of its extraction.
