摘要

Nanochitosan, derived from chitosan, offers a promising avenue for enhancing water quality through its remarkable properties in water treatment. Nanochitosan’s high surface area and adsorption capabilities effectively trap and remove various contaminants, including bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, organic compounds, and dyes from water sources. Through tailored modifications, nanochitosan can be engineered to selectively target specific pollutants, ensuring efficient removal without affecting essential water components. Integration of nanochitosan into membranes or filtration systems improves their efficiency, selectivity, and resistance to fouling, making them more effective in purifying water. Nanochitosan’s potential in simultaneously removing multiple pollutants like microorganisms, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and microplastics presents a comprehensive solution for diverse water treatment challenges. Being biodegradable, nanochitosan offers an environmentally friendly approach, breaking down into harmless by-products after use, minimizing environmental impact. Despite its potential, ensuring the safety of nanochitosan in terms of human exposure, ecotoxicity, and long-term environmental effects remains a focal point for research and regulatory considerations. On-going research aims to optimize nanochitosan properties, explore green synthesis methods, integrate advanced filtration technologies, and address scalability and cost-effectiveness for wider adoption. Establishing robust regulatory frameworks, safety guidelines, and standardized testing methods is crucial to ensure the responsible and safe use of nanochitosan in water treatment. Nanochitosan’s unique properties and on-going advancements position it as a promising candidate for improving water quality, offering versatile solutions for diverse water treatment needs while emphasizing the importance of safety, sustainability, and innovation in its application.
