Comments on ‘The Knowledge View of Perception’, by Andrea Kern

The primary purpose of Andrea’s paper is to establish that perception itself is a mode of knowledge, by objecting to any two-capacity account of perceptual knowledge, according to which “perceptual knowledge … is a compound of several capacities, one of which is perception [that somehow falls short of knowledge], and another of which is judgment [that is required to move from perception to knowledge]” (p. 99). I argue that her case against the first representative version of the two-capacity view is unsuccessful by her own lights. For all she says against it here, this version of the two-capacity view may provide a perfectly adequate account of perceptual knowledge.
