Spaces and Practices

This chapter examines the nature of the various theatre spaces where the Royal Shakespeare Company has performed Restoration Comedy. It evaluates their potential in the context of the playhouses for which the plays were written. It concludes with an analysis of The Swan Theatre, now the most regular space for the performance of Restoration Comedy, from the point of view of actors, directors, designers, musicians, and audiences.
